Ben came to me with a severe upper respiratory infection. This is equivalent to a kitty cold. Ben was constantly coughing, sneezing and had difficulty using his sense of smell to find food. He couldn't see out of his left eye. Ben required a few weeks of oral antibiotics, eye drops and syringe feeding to ensure he was meeting his caloric requirements. After almost a month, Ben showed drastic improvement. His eye gradually opened and the swelling reduced. He became less congested, and more playful. After my fosters reach a healthy state, they are able to interact with my resident fur-child, Max. Max and Ben became the best of friends, and by the end of his stay with us, Ben had picked up on many of Max's mannerisms (like sleeping on his back, vying for attention and drinking out of the toilet).
My foster pro tip for Ben was: when kittens are struggling to eat, or to wean from a bottle to wet food, a blended mixture of canned kitten food, formula and warm water will often work. Mix this in a Nutri-blend blender or other food processor until it is a fine consistency. Use a 12cc syringe with a Miracle Nipple attached to deliver food at a slow pace to the kitten.
